ENGL 149 - Classic Children’s Literature Credits: 5 LEC hours per week: 5 Examines literary fiction directed to children. Formerly: LIT 149. Course Outcomes:
- Examine and discuss the primary function of narrative in literature, especially children’s, and how it crafts meaning and context for our lives.
- Investigate and identify the components that distinguish children’s literature as a genre.
- Compare and contrast themes and issues from children’s stories from a variety of cultures and historical periods via creative projects or written assignments.
- Apply literary terms and concepts, such as style, imagery and characterization, to various examples of children’s literature, such as The Grimm’s Tales, Alice in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass, House at Pooh Corner, or The Chronicles of Narnia, in order to investigate themes and evaluate their merits.
