ENGL& 236 - Creative Writing I

Explores the many ways imaginative literature takes shape and offers specific strategies and assignments to generate and polish original poems and stories.
Prerequisite(s): Appropriate placement score or grade of C or higher in ENGL 097 ; or permission of the Division Chair or designee. 
Course Outcomes:
  • Compose original works of poetry, fiction, and/or creative non-fiction.
  • Practice and improve their use of poetic elements, such as figurative language and imagery by employing them in their compositions.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of poetic and stylistic elements of poetry in compositions written by themselves and others.
  • Identify elements of prosody in compositions by themselves and others.
  • Practice and improve their use of the elements of fiction, including plot, setting, characterization, and dialogue by employing them in their compositions.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the elements of fiction in compositions written by themselves and others.
