EST 108 - Materials, Fasteners, and Raceways Credits: 5 LEC hours per week: 3 LAB hours per week: 4 Learn to identify electrical materials and their applications. Students will classify, grade, and use fasteners, such as bolts, screws, and rivets. Proper torque values are explained. Provides training in electrical raceway types, tools, and procedures used in the electrical industry. Gain a working knowledge of appropriate tools and procedures in bending and installing various types of raceways in compliance with the NEC and electrical safety. Course Outcomes:
- Define application of trade terminology.
- Explain the functional use of non-metallic vs. metallic boxes and raceways.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the types of fasteners used in the field.
- Correctly identify various types and sizes of service equipment.
- Demonstrate safe use of electrical benders and pipe threaders.
- Demonstrate proper threading procedures on RMC.
- Demonstrate proper bending procedures of various types of electrical raceways.
- Reference installation requirements per the National Electrical Code (NEC®).
- Discuss benefits and permitted locations of various types of raceway.
