EV 102 - Maintaining A Vinifera Vineyard Credits: 4 LEC hours per week: 3 CLIN hours per week: 3 Provides the skills necessary for maintaining the vineyard from the point of dormancy through the harvest. Emphasizes crop monitoring techniques, pruning methods, bloom, vine manipulation, determining vine health, as well as the relationship that exists between the grower and the vintner. Prerequisite(s): Grade of C or higher in EV 101 . Course Outcomes:
- Practice and employ the principles of quality grape production including:
- Pruning.
- Suckering
- Thinning
- Canopy management
- Identify grape pests and discuss the methods of control.
- Analyze soil and grape plant fertility and specify adequate water during the growing season.
- Identify irrigation methods and irrigation timing for grapes to maximize fruit quality.
- Assess grape quality prior to harvest.
- Describe the stages of a grape plant during the growing season including bloom, pollination, and fertilization.
