HSC 064 - Geometry IB

Credits: 5
LEC hours per week: 5
Course fulfills the second half in fundamentals of plane geometry, covering the vocabulary and concept of geometry through the use of formal proof and algebra and coordinate geometry. Completion of the geometry sequence prepares students for higher level mathematics courses and for those science courses requiring a working knowledge of geometry.
Course Outcomes:
  • Distinguish between two-dimensional and three-dimensional figures and design algebraic equations from their properties.
  • Solve algebraic equations by utilizing the properties and relationships between angles and lines.
  • Define and build figures using Points, Lines, Planes and Angles.
  • Exhibit logical arguments and proofs.
Course Topics:
  1. Logical arguments and proofs.
  2. Lines and angles.
  3. Two- and three-dimensional figures.
  4. Geometry in the coordinate plane.
  5. Geometric transformations.
  6. Geometric formulas for measurement.
  7. Circles.
