HSS 241 - Field Experience II


Credits: 5
CLIN hours per week: 15
Student will provide services in a setting related to his/her area of interest. There will be opportunities for direct client contact to enhance skills in interviewing, observation, documentation, assessment, and intervention planning. Students will complete and submit field experience documentation, address legal and ethical issues related to their site, track progress on practicum learning objectives, network with other students, self-evaluate their progress, and discuss trends and best practices.
Prerequisite(s): Instructor consent.
Course Outcomes:
  • Apply skills and abilities learned in previous practicum setting.
  • Apply interpersonal communications skills and professionalism with individuals receiving support from human service agencies.
  • Employ academic coursework to real situations with increased sophistication in a human services setting.
  • Show ability to work as part of a professional team.
  • Demonstrate ability to write clear and well organized reports appropriate for the community setting.
  • Discuss employment opportunities, best practices, and the skills and competencies required for professions at the human services agency.
  • Summarize the practical mechanics of the agency’s operations, use of equipment, forms, and reports.
  • Explain the structure, function, and funding sources of the human services agency.
  • Identify problems and appropriate course of action to participate in the problem solving process.
  • Compare the purpose, policies, and procedures of an agency and the agency’s relationship to other community resources and programs.

  1. Varied based on specified field placement in a human services agency
  2. The perspective of human service workers within a community and agency setting
  3. Professional behaviors in field placement and future employment
  4. Techniques to refine communication, professional, and networking skills.
  5. Ethical dilemmas.
  6. Written journal assessment of growth and overall learning in human services program.
  7. Field placement evaluation.
