HUM 109 - World Arts and Culture Credits: 5 LEC hours per week: 5 Provides a study of literature, poetry, visual art, film, theatre, music and history in cultures around the world by comparing differences and similarities across cultures. Completion of ENGL 097 recommended. Course Outcomes:
- Explain the influence art has on various cultures, especially their own.
- Analyze the way that cultures are created and maintained, often by exclusion of marginalized groups, through societal constructions of such factors as gender, family, race, social class, and ideological identities.
- Evaluate art according to its function, means of production, and cultural and social significance.
- Interpret a variety of art through the perspectives of history, politics, philosophy, aesthetics, religion, anthropology, sociology, and literature.
