HVACR 225 - Commercial Air Conditioning Systems Credits: 4 LAB hours per week: 6 This course explores commercial air conditioning systems. Topics will include high-pressure, low-pressure, and absorption chillers. Cooling towers, pumps, package rooftop units, variable refrigerant flow, and variable air volume systems will also be covered. Training will focus on the operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of these systems and components. Course Outcomes:
- Demonstrate start-up, operations, monitoring, and maintenance procedures for low pressure, high pressure, and absorption chiller systems.
- Identify all components used to operate commercial air conditioning systems.
- Calculate tower load for the three types of water cooling towers.
- Describe types of pump and motor alignment plus fan and motor alignment.
- Explain the function of the enthalpy controls, economizer, plus enthalpy and dual sensor for rooftop air conditioners.
- Distinguish between constant air volume (CAV) and variable air volume (VAV).
- Describe the two most common types of VAV systems.
- Analyze variable refrigerant volume (VRV) and/or variable refrigerant flow (VRF) in two pipe and three pipe systems.
- Explain ASHRAE Standard 62 for ventilation and air quality.
Course Topics:
- High pressure, low pressure, and absorption air conditioning chillers
- Cooling towers and pumps
- Operation and maintenance of chilled water air conditioning systems
- Commercial package rooftop, variable refrigerant flow, and variable volume systems
- Perform commercial air conditioner chiller maintenance and repair on operating system
