JD 193 - Job Advancing Skills Credits: 2 LEC hours per week: 2 Students gain knowledge and skills needed to be effective, successful job applicants. Students increase job seeking skills and qualities through analysis of the labor market, job search techniques, skills identification, applications, resume and letter writing and interview skills. Students understand what employers look for in a prospective employee, and become a more competitive job seeker. Students will learn how networking and informational interviews result in employment opportunities. Course Outcomes:
- Analyze local and state labor market statistics from chosen professional/technical areas to ascertain labor market supply and demand, current and projected wages, and wage/skill progression requirements.
- Identify general and career-specific employer expectations related to skills, training, aptitude and character traits valued in the workplace to share in a portfolio, application, resume and interview.
- Analyze the various components of a resume and cover letter and choose the most appropriate format.
- Distinguish between the various components of interview etiquette including appropriate dress and grooming standards, and protocol for presentation of materials in the interview process.
- Organize and outline responses to the most frequently asked questions in an interview.
