MATH& 152 - Calculus II

Credits: 5
LEC hours per week: 5
MATH& 152 is the second in a sequence of four calculus courses for students who are planning to major in engineering, mathematics, or the sciences. Graphical analysis of concepts is emphasized through the use of technology. Formerly: MATH 125.
Prerequisite(s): Grade of C- or higher in MATH& 151 , satisfactory placement, or permission of the Mathematics Department.
Course Outcomes:
  • Approximate definite integrals with left, right and midpoint Riemann sums and trapezoid and Simpson’s rules.
  • Interpret the definite integral in relation to the limit of Riemann sums, the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus, net change, and area under a curve.
  • Evaluate integrals using anti-derivatives of polynomial, rational, root, trigonometric, exponential, logarithmic, and inverse trigonometric functions as well as methods of integration including substitution, integration by parts, trigonometric substitution, and partial fraction decomposition.
  • Evaluate improper integrals or state that they diverge.
  • Construct models for contextual problems and apply calculus to solve them. Applications include finding average value, area, volumes, and arclength as well as computing displacement, mass, force, and work.
  • Access and use technology as needed.
  • Communicate mathematics using relevant vocabulary and notation.
