MATH& 142 is the second in a series of two courses designed to give students an in-depth understanding of functions and to prepare students for calculus. Graphical analysis of concepts is emphasized through the use of technology.
Prerequisite(s): Grade of C- or higher in MATH& 141, satisfactory placement, or permission of the Mathematics Department.
Course Outcomes:

Analyze sine, cosine, tangent, cosecant, arcsine, arcosine, and arctangent functions.
- Identify domain and range.
- Generate and interpret graphs.
- Describe defining characteristics.
- Explain the relationship to the unit circle.
- Explain the relationship to the right triangle.
Combine trigonometric functions using addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and composition.
Analyze transformations resulting from the application of shifts and scales.
Solve equations and inequalities involving trigonometric expressions through analytic and graphical techniques.
Apply the Law of Sines and Law of Cosines to oblique triangles.
Use trigonometric identities to rewrite expressions, verify additional identities, and solve equations.
Construct appropriate trigonometric functions to model and solve contextual problems.
Relate two-dimensional vectors to right triangle trigonometry.
Interpret parametric equations analytically and graphically.
Analyze and graph polar equations; demonstrate the ability to convert between polar and Cartesian coordinates.
Optional: identify, analyze, and apply conic sections.
