MUSC 216 - College Voice IV

College voice classes offer instruction for students of every ability. Beginners as well as students pursuing transfer music degrees will benefit from any College Voice class. Students are offered practical tools for accessing their inherent vitality, expressiveness, and grace. Performing opportunities include recitals, original operettas (Winter quarter) and collaboration with the WWCC Theatre Department. MUSC 216 offers a more in-depth study of specific elements of efficient vocal technique and performance. These include vocal purity, the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) and appropriate vocal literature for each individual. Choral singers, all music majors, elementary education majors as well as students who simply want to continue to improve their singing will benefit from this class.
Course Outcomes:
  • Apply major terms, vocabulary, methods, concepts, and theories relevant to singing.
  • Recognize and describe efficient vocal techniques.
  • Practice technical awareness and employ new skills.
  • Identify, critique, and correct inefficient personal singing habits.

  2. Exhalation providing stability, vibrancy, and vocal energy.

  5. Balanced chiaroscuro (bright and dark tones).
  6. Vocal range and registers.
  7. Vocal flexibility.
  8. Healthy onset and offset.
  9. Balanced resonance.
  10. Efficient and buoyant alignment and body use.
  11. Awareness of inhibiting habits.
  12. Healthy vocal habits.
  13. Efficient vocal habits.
  14. Effective use of vowels and consonants.
  15. Music preparation and memorization.
  16. Collaborative pianist/ensemble singing.
  17. Accurate rhythm, pitches, phrasing, dynamics.
  18. Expressing the life of the music and the story of the song.
  19. Dramatic interpretation that engages the listeners.
