NAIL 111 - Principles and Procedures of Nail Technology I Credits: 1-11 LEC hours per week: 11 Introduction and overview of all aspects of nail technology. Topics include: cleaning/disinfecting, sterilization, scientific concepts, manicuring, pedicuring, anatomy and physiology of the hand and foot, chemistry, electricity, and enhancement services. Emphasizes safety and first aid in all instruction. Prerequisite(s): Instructor permission. Corequisite(s): NAIL 112 . Course Outcomes:
- Identify how disease and infection are caused and transmitted.
- Differentiate between the purposes of single-use and multi-use tools.
- Identify purpose of Material Safety and Data Sheets (MSDS).
- Identify ways to prevent work injuries (e.g., ventilation, ergo-metrics, environment).
- Identify function and structure of the skin.
- Differentiate between disorders and diseases of the skin.
- Identify bones of the arms and hands.
- Identify bones of the legs and feet.
- Identify muscles of the arms and hands and their functions.
- Identify muscles of the legs and feet and their functions.
- Identify the parts of the nail (e.g., root, mantle, matrix).
- Identify function of structures of the nail.
- Differentiate between signs and symptoms of nail conditions, disorders, and diseases.

- Infection control and safety practices used when performing manicures and pedicures
- Basic human anatomy and physiology of arm, hand, leg, feet
- Finger and toe nail anatomy and physiology
