NURS 195 - LPN Professional and Vocational Relationships Credits: 2 LEC hours per week: 2 This online course prepares the nursing student who has successfully completed through the fourth quarter of the WWCC Nursing Program (Fall quarter, second-year nursing) to be eligible to apply to become a licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in Washington State. It addresses the laws and regulations that govern LPN nursing practice in Washington State and the standards for professional behavior of the LPN. Course Outcomes:
- Locate and describe the laws and standards that regulate the nursing practice of the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in Washington State.
- Define the roles and responsibilities of the Washington State Nursing Care Quality Assurance Commission (NCQAC).
- Discuss the standards of professional behavior for LPN nursing practice in Washington State.
- Identify at least five (5) violations of the Uniform Disciplinary Act that would require intervention by the NCQAC.
- Explain how organizational policies and procedures are applied to promote a safe, effective healthcare environment.
- Describe communication strategies that promote effective teamwork in the healthcare environment.
- Discuss how the LPN would use the five (5) rights of delegation for a task performed by a nursing assistant.
- Explain how the Scope of Practice Decision Tree is used to ensure safe delegation of nursing tasks.
- Identify how the LPN would utilize the Chain of Command to ensure professional nursing practice in the workplace.
