SPAN 234 - Conversacion, Composicion, Y Colaboracion Credits: 5 LEC hours per week: 5 This bilingual composition and conversation course provides an opportunity for both native speakers and intermediate second language learners to collaboratively cultivate their basic interpersonal communication skills in Spanish, with emphasis on the development of written and spoken language through the study of Latino literature & folklore, current event topics, and Spanish-language cinema. Students will review grammar while boosting vocabulary and accentuation skills through reading, writing, speaking, and listening activities involving short stories, films, podcast listening & production, and special class guests from our community. Recommended: 1 year of Spanish or equivalent. Course Outcomes:
- Communicate on familiar topics using verbal and written Spanish.
- Integrate idiomatic expressions in coversation.
- Compose speech and text in Spanish with increasing fluency.
- Apply appropriate grammar and vocabulary to selected events in time and place.
- Compose persuasive arguments in speech and writing in Spanish.
- Using oral communication at an intermediate level when dealing with everyday routine tasks.
- Participate in conversations requiring an exchange of basic information related to common topics, such as work or school, or personal interests, current events, literature, film, and media.
- Write an intermediate level in a variety of forms, such as stories and letters.
- Integrate facility in Spanish with collaborative learning in working with learners from varied linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
- Describe local and global communities and cultures of the Spanish-speaking world.
- Use the Spanish language to participate in Hispanic communities, both locally and globally.
