TURF 201 - Turfgrass Cultural Practices Credits: 6 LEC hours per week: 6 Students are introduced to turfgrass cultural practices. Topics covered include turfgrass types and cultivars, turfgrass uses, selection of grasses, turfgrass fertilization and fertilizer selection, water needs of the grass plant and irrigation, renovation practices, future trends, and turfgrass assessment techniques. Course Outcomes:
- Identify the components of different types of turfgrasses.
- Classify different types of turfgrasses based on their components and physiology.
- Choose the correct type of grass mixture for specific areas of use.
- Select the appropriate cultivar of a grass species and seed for use in a specific area.
- Assess the species and cultivar differences of different turfgrasses.
- Interpret fertilizer specifications.
- Develop fertilizer programs for multiple sites of different maintenance levels.
- Explain the water requirements for turfgrasses in a variety of settings.
- Calculate an irrigation schedule for a turfgrass site.
