WELD 256 - Gas Metal Arc Welding Credits: 1-17 LEC hours per week: 5 LAB hours per week: 24 This course provides Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) and Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) experience on ferrous and nonferrous alloys. Topics include welding equipment setup and safety procedures, welding practices and procedures for various applications, and equipment maintenance procedures. Course Outcomes:
- Apply safe cylinder handling and GMAW/FCAW equipment practices.
- Demonstrate proper set up, adjustment, and closing practices for joining and cutting steel materials.
- Interpret shop drawings or prints to construct welding objective assemblies.
- Identify and apply the correct process to assigned welding tasks.
- Create welding objective assemblies according to specification.
- Evaluate final weld assembly according to AWS standards in publication D1.1.
- Complete qualification tests.
- Demonstrate sketching and drawing techniques in multi view and geometric object representations.
- Interpret drafting prints, working drawings, and specifications.
