WELD 255 - Gas Tungsten Arc Welding Credits: 1-17 LEC hours per week: 5 LAB hours per week: 24 This course explores Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) processes on ferrous and nonferrous materials. Topics include safe and proper GTAW equipment setup requirements, process variables, material requirements, and welding procedures. Course Outcomes:
- Apply safe cylinder handling and GTAW equipment practices.
- Demonstrate proper set up, adjustment, and closing practices for joining and cutting steel materials.
- Interpret shop drawings or prints to construct welding objective assemblies.
- Identify and apply the correct process to assigned welding tasks.
- Create welding objective assemblies according to specifications.
- Evaluate final weld assembly according to AWS standards in publication D1.1.
- Demonstrate sketching and drawing techniques in multi view and geometric object representations.
- Interpret drafting prints, working drawings, and specifications.

- Dry and water-cooled torches.
- Use and care for fuel gas welding and cutting apparatuses.
- Shop welding systems, grinders, vices, clamps, drills, files, air driven tools, punches, shears, and breaks.
- Measuring tools and methods.
- Fabrication systems and material types.
- Print reading and weld symbol principles.
