WELD 112 - Gas Metal Arc Welding


Credits: 1-6
LAB hours per week: 12
Introduce students to welding safety, industry practices, and Gas Metal Arc Welding processes in a laboratory setting. Students will learn, practice, and apply skills needed for the safe operation of high-pressure cylinders, and GMAW equipment in various welding configurations. Students will prepare projects to weld using basic print reading skills. Lab practice will be completed while employing professional, ethical, and safe welding shop behavior.
Corequisite(s): Student is required to enroll in WELD 102  , WELD 112, and WELD 122 .
Course Outcomes:
  • Demonstrate how to properly set up a Gas Metal Arc welding
  • Demonstrate how to adjust shielding gas flow rate
  • Disassemble wire feeder to accommodate the different wire consumables and size
  • Assemble wire feeder to accommodate the different wire consumables and size
  • Weld a lap joint, butt joint, tee joint, edge joint, and an open corner joint
  • Visual inspection of Gas Metal Arc welds to AWS D1.1 Weld Standards
