WELD 111 - Oxy/Fuel Welding, Cutting, and SMAW 1 Lab Credits: 1-12 LAB hours per week: 24 Introduce students to welding safety, industry practices, and Shield Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) processes in a laboratory setting. Students will learn, practice, and apply skills needed for the safe operation of Oxy/fuel welding, brazing and cutting equipment as well as SMAW equipment including 6010 and 7018 electrodes. Students will prepare projects to weld using basic print reading skills. Lab practice will be completed while employing professional, ethical, and safe welding shop behavior. Course Outcomes:
- Test Oxy/Fuel Equipment for fuel and oxygen leaks
- Assemble, light, adjust, extinguish, and disassemble oxy/fuel equipment
- Maintain the major components of oxy/fuel welding equipment including cylinders, regulators, hoses, and torches
- Use scarfing tip, cutting tip and welding tip correctly
- Set a neutral flame for oxy/fuel welding correctly
- Start the power source and adjust settings for SMAW equipment to prepare to weld
- Create proper filler welds in the 2F, 3F, 4F, 2G, 3G, 4G positions
