The Web Development one-year certificate consists of 45 credits taken over 4 quarters.

Assuming no prior computer experience, students are introduced to digital literacy, operating systems, file management and Office productivity software. Students then apply an understanding of user experience (UX) as they conceive and plan user interfaces (UI). With a growing understanding of HTML, CSS and JavaScript students build new and replicate existing websites at an introductory level.

Students then learn how to build full-stack web applications, by connecting databases, managing page-routing and dynamically generating pages with server-side scripting. Students create stateful, responsive single page applications (SPAs) using front end frameworks.

This program prepares graduates for employment in creative agencies, in-house Web departments, on dev teams and in freelance opportunities in Washington State.

The program culminates with an App Building Capstone class in which students utilize all of the aptitudes they have gained in preceding courses to conceive, plan, build, test, optimize and launch a web application.

Certificate Outcomes:

  • Create effective user interfaces based on critical understanding of customers and tasks.
  • Build functional and effective websites and web applications using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript and React.
  • Collaborate on code projects using a distributed version control system to share tasks among team members within a common codebase.
  • Manage a project codebase in an integrated development environment utilizing the command line and development tooling pipelines.
  • Apply basic knowledge of data structures and algorithms to complex problem solving and programming tasks.
  • Write clean code in industry-standard markup, scripting, and programming languages.
  • Build full-stack web applications by connecting databases, managing page-routing and dynamically generating pages using server-side scripting.
