CAP 067 - Writing Essentials I


Credits: 1-5
This course focuses on the composition of well-developed sentences, paragraphs. and the writing process. Students learn the basics of sentence structure, informative, and narrative writing. Instructors will use the Career and College Readiness Standards level B to evaluate competencies and ensure developmental progression.
Course Outcomes:
  1. Apply writing process concepts.
  2. Create organized, unified, coherent and well-developed paragraphs and short essays.
  3. Use academic writing style in voice, wording, and sentence construction.
  4. Interpret short, pre-college-level texts for key ideas with assistance.
  5. Analyze short, pre-college level texts for key ideas with assistance.
  6. Use basic information literacy skills by researching outside sources and avoiding plagiarism.
  7. Manage the academic demands of college classes independently.

  1. Interpreting and analyzing nonfiction, fiction, and informational text.
  2. Writing effective sentences.
  3. Developing and connecting ideas.
  4. Writing about text and revising.
  5. Using grammar correctly.
  6. Utilizing writing mechanics and writing conventions.
