CJ 102 - Applied Skills In Criminal Justice

This course presents a practical approach to the fundamental organization of the criminal justice system with particular emphasis on job skills, academic proficiency, practical writing, and communication. This course investigates past and present facets of the criminal justice system (law enforcement, courts, and corrections), emphasizing their procedures and complex interrelationships. The aim of this course is to provide students with applied knowledge and practical necessary for successful employment in the field of criminal justice.
Course Outcomes:
  1. Summarize the history and processes of the different criminal justice agencies and the criminal procedures in the criminal justice system.
  2. Describe the criminaljustice process, from arrests, trial progression, adjudication, and disposition from the differing perspectives of law enforcement, judicial, and correctional officials.
  3. Compare and contrast the functions, roles, and responsibilities of the different criminal justice agencies.
  4. Define the laws and regulations that influence the actions of criminal justice employees.
  5. Analyze how personal biases may influence ethical behavior within the different criminal justice agencies, as well as how diversity issues, bias, and use of force affect civilian and community relations.
  6. Illustrate how gender, race, ethnicity, and social class may influence a citizen’s experience with the criminal justice system.
  7. Demonstrate verbal and nonverbal communication appropriate within the criminal justice profession.
  8. Apply leadership, professional writing, and communication skills to effectively complete job applications.
  9. Demonstrate proficiencies in the criminal justice interview and application processes.
