CMST& 220 - Public Speaking Credits: 5 Develops students’ competency in planning, preparing, presenting, and evaluating basic speeches. Course Outcomes:
- Recognize the many causes of speech anxiety and determine ways to conquer or reduce related apprehensions.
- Model the important role of a respectful and supportive audience member.
- Utilize appropriate listening techniques.
- Describe the ethics of public speaking.
- Determine the importance of appropriate, thoughtful, and correct word choice and language in oral presentations.
- Design a successful speech from outline to delivery.
- Employ verbal and non-verbal skills essential for a public speaker.
- Evaluate public speaking skills in self and others.

- Ethics of public speaking.
- Analyzing the audience.
- Selecting a topic and purpose.
- Gathering materials.
- Organizing the body of the speech.
- Introduction and conclusion of the speech.
