COLL 161 - Auto Body Repair I Credits: 1-21 Body shop safety, use of common hand tools, power tools, body hand tool operations, and body fasteners will be covered. Topics include the study of mild and high strength steel, sheet metal design, and collision damage analysis. Course Outcomes:
- Acquire S/P2 Safety Certificate.
- Use shop tools, common hand tools, and power tools properly.
- Remove and install body trim and hardware.
- Explain unibody and body over frame construction.
- Apply basic techniques of metal straightening and body fillers to current projects.
Course Topics:
- Body shop safety and hazardous materials.
- Fundamentals of collision repair.
- Common hand tools, power tools, hydraulic power tools, and body fasteners.
- Auto body construction.
- Damage analysis.
- Fundamentals of metal straightening.
- Using body fillers.
- Compressed air systems.
- The importance of establishing corrosion protection.
- Welding task assignment.
