CS 277 - Fundamentals of Network Security

Explores blocking attacks on computer network systems. Study of the white hat hackers compared to the black hat crackers. Topics include viruses, Trojan programs and copyright infringements, bandwidth problems, and networking issues.
Course Outcomes:
  1. Demonstrate knowledge of security protection of a computer network.
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of safe alternatives-Linux, Windows 2000, and Co.

Course Topics:
  1. The network security industry and its job market.
  2. Basic network security concepts and topologies and the main functions of each layer of the OSI model.
  3. The importance of recognizing emerging networking technologies.
