CS 125 - A+ Certification (Software) Credits: 5 A comparative analysis of several computer operating systems with a concentration on those used in microprocessors, including server and client operating systems. Course Outcomes:
- Demonstrate knowledge of DOS and its function within the personal computer.
- Demonstrate knowledge of managing and using directories and files.
- Demonstrate knowledge of storage media and related hardware.
- Prepare and maintain floppy disks.
- Demonstrate knowledge of emergency procedures.
- Demonstrate knowledge of system information.
- Control the computer working environment.
- Use the DOS editor.
- Demonstrate knowledge of batch files.
- DOS Key and macros.
- Configure a personal computer.
- Demonstrate knowledge of Linux/UNIX.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the Linux/UNIX file system.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the UNIX editors (VI and EMACS).
Course Topics:
- Overview of Operating Systems and their history
- How operating systems handle memory management, processor management, device management, file management, and the management of network functions
- The following operating systems will be covered MS-DOS, Windows 2000, Unix/Linux, and Macintosh
