DRMA& 101 - Introduction to Theatre


Credits: 5
Introduction to the study of theatre. Students will watch film and live performances of theatrical productions, read representative dramatic literature, and learn the history, theory, and practice of the theatrical arts - playwrights, acting, design and directing.
Course Outcomes:
 

  1. Articulate a definition of theatre and its various elements.
  2. Describe the individual responsibilities, duties, and tools of the theatrical artist collective (actor, designer, playwright, director, etc.)
  3. Analyze and discuss a play from a variety of perspectives (designer, director, actor, etc.) utilizing a knowledge of theatre history, the elements of dramatic literature, dramatic genres and styles.
  4. Formulate a critical response to theatrical productions utilizing objective evidence, as well as a personal preference for the aesthetic experience.
  5. Identify and discuss the impact/contributions of defining moments, artists, and works that emerged in the time periods relevant to the course.
