ECE 150 - Math and Science for Early Childhood


Credits: 5
Focus on math and science for preschool and primary grade children. Students will learn how to create developmentally appropriate curriculum that will support young children in acquiring concepts and skills essential to basic understanding of math and science.
Course Outcomes:
 
  1. Explain how young children develop and acquire mathematical and scientific knowledge.
  2. Identify the fundamental math concepts and skills appropriate to preschool and primary age children and identify the major areas of math instruction.
  3. Explain the science attitudes and process skills appropriate to preschool and primary age children and identify the major areas of science instruction.
  4. Evaluate early learning math and science environments and instructional strategies.
  5. Design and implement math and science curricula based on developmentally appropriate practice, learning theory, and learning standards.
  6. Examine strategies and activities for developing math and science concepts and skills that promote, facilitate, and extend learning for all children.
