HPER 274 - Personal and Community Health and Hygiene

This course will present current information to students and enable them to make intelligent decisions concerning their physical, mental, and social well-being. The importance of positive personality and self-image is also stressed as a basis for sound health decisions. This course counts as an ELECTIVE toward an AA degree, NOT as an ACTIVITY COURSE.
Course Outcomes:
  1. Assess personal physical and mental health.
  2. Identify key components to healthy relationships.
  3. Identify key components to healthy sexuality.
  4. Summarize the risks fo alcohol and tobacco use.
  5. Identify key components to healthy nutrition, weight managment, and stress management, and formulate a personalized fitness for life plan.
  6. Recognize common diseases, causes, and prevention strategies.
  7. List access points to health care.

  10. Improving your personal fitness
  11. Reducing your risk of cardiovascular disease and cancer
