HPER 148 - Walking III

This course explores the theory, knowledge and practical experience in the principles of walking and its relationship to lifetime fitness.
Course Outcomes:
  1. Calculate target heart rate and demonstrate its use in assessing walking and/or jogging intensity.
  2. Articulate and practice proper walking body mechanics.
  3. Develop an individual workout plan with strategic design and attainable goals.
  4. Identify the benefits of proper exercise methods, warm up and cool down techniques, stretching techniques, and safety.
  5. Demonstrate the progressive increase of workload to improve fitness levels.
  6. Practice concepts associated with general fitness, cardiovascular improvement, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, stress reduction, and safety.

  1. Calculate target heart rate
  2. Body mechanics when walking
  3. Assessment methods
  4. Overload principle and workout progressions
  5. Development of an individual workout plan
  6. Warm up, cool down, and stretching techniques
  7. General fitness, cardiovascular improvement, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, stress reduction, and safety
