HSC 035 - HSC Geography and World Affairs


Credits: 1-2.5
This course studies world geography and contemporary national and international issues. Credit can be earned for only one of these courses: CAP 058  or HSC 035.
Course Outcomes:
  1. Produce graphic representations to explain geographic problems.
  2. Interpret maps and other graphic representations to understand geographic problems.
  3. Evaluate the applications of geographic tools and supporting technologies.
  4. Describe and interpret physical processes that shape places.
  5. Analyze how cultures influence a geographic region.
  6. Identify global impacts of human changes to the physical environment.
  7. Analyze population issues and policies for addressing such issues.
  8. Use technology skills to find and use information for academic purposes, including word processing and learning management systems.

  1. Location - Geo-positioning
  2. Place - Conditions and features of a place (human and physical)
  3. Interaction - Connections between the natural environment and cultures
  4. Movement - How places are linked and connected by the flow of ideas, people, commodities, resources, and travel
  5. Region - How places are grouped
  6. Physical geography - Climates, plants, soils, landforms, and bodies of water
  7. Human geography - Communities, people, and landscapes
  8. Cartography
  9. Meteorology
  10. Hydrology
