MATH 075 - Elementary Algebra Credits: 5 MATH 075 exposes students to positive integer exponents, operations on polynomial expressions, expressions and equations involving square roots, and linear and quadratic equations. The course focuses on graphing two-variable linear and quadratic equations and on solving problems using linear equations, quadratic equations, and systems of linear equations. Course Outcomes:
- Interpret properties of lines and parabolas.
- Graph linear and quadratic equations.
- Generate an equation of a line given sufficient defining characteristics.
- Solve problems of two linear equations in two unknowns.
- Use systems of two linear equations in two unknowns to model and solve problems.
- Add, subtract, multiply, and simplify polynomial expressions.
- Simplify expressions involving positive integer exponents.
- Simplify square root expressions and solve square root equations.
- Factor monic trinomials.
- Convert from standard form to vertex form of a quadratic equation.
- Solve quadratic equations by factoring and using the quadratic formula.
- Use a scientific calculator when necessary.
