MATH 040 - Number Sense, Computation, and Math Study Skills


Credits: 5
Reinforcement of the student’s arithmetic background and its application to common mathematical tasks involving integers, fractions, and decimals. Introduction to a variety of strategies designed to reduce math anxiety and improve student success.
Course Outcomes:
  1. Students will be able to organize numbers with regard to place values.
  2. Students will be able to perform basic computations including order of operations exercises on whole numbers, integers, fractions and decimals without the use of a calculator.
  3. Students will be able to use a scientific calculator to perform basic computations including order of operations exercises on whole numbers, integers, fractions and decimals.
  4. Students will be able to use online resources to supplement their learning.
  5. Students will demonstrate their understanding of study skills and college readiness.
