WELD 141 - Welding Basics


Credits: 4
Opportunity to select customized welding process instruction for application training, industry practices, hobby uses, or skill development to meet employer/employment requirements.
Course Outcomes:
  1. Apply safe cylinder handling OAW, GMAW, and SMAW equipment practices.
  2. Demonstrate proper set up, adjustment, and closing practices for joining and cutting steel materials.
  3. Interpret shop drawings or prints to construct welding objective assemblies.
  4. Identify and apply the correct process to assigned welding tasks.
  5. Create welding objective assemblies according to specifications.
  6. Evaluate final weld assembly according to AWS standards in publication D1.1.

Course Topics:
  1. Training in the use and care for fuel gas welding and cutting apparatuses.
  2. Portable and shop welding systems.
  3. Grinders, vices, clamps, drills, files, air driven tools, punches, shears, and breaks.
  4. Measuring tools and methods.
  5. Fabrication techniques involving steel materials.
  6. Grinding equipment operation safety.
