CAP 082 - CAP High School Literature Credits: 1-5 In this course, students develop their skills as they read texts from across thousands of years and many cultures. This course uses a thematic approach to comparing and contrasting texts that represent a wide range of time periods and places. By exploring a single theme over time, culture, and genre, students distinguish what is directly stated in a text from what can be inferred, and learn devices such as satire, sarcasm, irony, and understatement. Course Outcomes:
- Interpret diverse text types to derive meaning.
- Evaluate different interpretations of a text.
- Identify and articulate complex ideas and themes in texts.
- Engage in thoughtful discussion of texts.
- Write a variety of text types.
- Develop a response to works read.
- Apply strategies for understanding various text types, such as plays, poems, short stories, novels, film, and comics, from different cultures and historic times.
- Analyze the features employed in a variety of text types to construct meaning.
