CARP 299 - Leadership


Credits: 1
Encourage students to develop awareness of their leadership potential and abilities through small group discussions and assumption of leadership roles and responsibilities. Students will acquire information, experience diverse points of view, construct knowledge and practice a variety of interpersonal and social skills, such as communicating, goal-setting, decision-making, team-building, and managing stress.
Course Outcomes:
  1. Describe the characteristics of leadership.
  2. Discuss the major roles of a leader.
  3. Explain the differences between leadership and management.
  4. Discuss interpersonal behaviors and the resulting effects upon working relationships.
  5. Discuss stress and its impact upon effective leadership.
  6. Describe basic parliamentary procedure and its role in the conduct of meetings.
  7. Identify the basic types of conflict, conditions that lead to conflict, and methods of facilitating conflict resolution.
  8. Describe management attitudes and the need to plan for change.

  1. Apply effective communication skills.
  2. Describe effective leadership characteristics.
  3. Identify the different styles of leadership.
  4. Explain the concepts of team building and goal setting.
  5. Describe approaches and the importance of employee engagement.
  6. Explain strategies to manage and resolve conflict.
