COSM 299 - Leadership


Credits: 4
Encourage students to develop awareness of their leadership potential and abilities through small group discussions and assumption of leadership roles and responsibilities. Students will gain knowledge and skills needed to be effective, successful job applicants within the Cosmetology and Barbering industries. Students will acquire information, experience diverse points of view, construct knowledge and practice a variety of interpersonal and social skills, such as communicating, goal-setting, decision-making, team-building, conflict resolution, and managing stress.
Course Outcomes:
 

  1. Describe the characteristics of leadership, the major roles of a leader, and how leadership differs from management in a Cosmetology setting.
  2. Examine the effects of interpersonal behaviors on working relationships.
  3. Describe genera I a nd ca reer-specific em ploye r expectations related to skills, training, aptitude, and character traits valued in the workplace.
  4. Prepare a portfolio which includes example application, resume, and personal materials.
  5. Explain the components of interview etiquette including appropriate dress, grooming standards, and protocol for presentation of materials.
  6. Investigate the Cosmetology industry’s opportunities for employment, license requirements, tax regulations, and social media best Practices.
