MUSC 263 - Vocal Ensemble VI

Choral participation providing vocal experience for all interested students who have a background in music and singing.
Course Outcomes:
 
  1. Apply major terms, vocabulary, methods, concepts, and theories relevant to singing.
  2. Recognize and describe efficient vocal techniques.
  3. Practice technical awareness and employ new skills.
  4. Critique and correct inefficient personal singing habits.
  5. Evaluate use of proper technique by self and others.
  6. Assess and critique the group performance.
  7. Collaborate with a pianist and ensemble.
  8. Dramatize a song while employing new vocal techniques.

Course Topics:
 

  1. Body/breath/voice connection.
  2. Specific tensions that inhibit singing.
  3. Easy, full, and efficient inhalation and exhalation providing stability, vibrancy, and vocal energy.
  4. Accurate intonation.
  5. Healthy vocal production.
  6. Efficient and buoyant alignment.
  7. Efficient breath management.
  8. Basic vocal mechanics.
  9. Accurate rhythm, artistic phrasing, and appropriate dynamics.
  10. Sight-singing and listening skills.
  11. Developing ownership of musical ideas.
  12. Responsibility for mastering individual choral lines.
  13. Preparation, focus, and patience.
  14. Responsiveness and active participation.
  15. Dramatic interpretation, study, and artistic interpretation of text and musical score.
  16. Expressing the life of the music and story of the song.
  17. Rehearsal preparation and ensemble commitment.
  18. Group goals and teamwork attitude.
  19. Creating a safe environment for all ensemble members.
  20. Treating all members with dignity and respect.
