AHSE 110 - HIV/AIDS Education


Credits: 0.7
Provides the healthcare professional with mandatory instruction involving information/knowledge associated with HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, tuberculosis, and related diseases. This class meets Washington State certification/licensing requirements for four or seven hour HIV/AIDS training for healthcare providers. Students completing this class will receive a certificate documenting the mandatory training.
Course Outcomes:
  1. Discuss incidence, prevalence, and trends of AIDS cases as seen from a county, state, national, and global perspective.
  2. Describe modes of transmission and conditions for infection of the HIV virus, TB, and Hepatitis.
  3. Identify main components of infection control practice and policies.
  4. Describe the HIV antibody testing and test results.
  5. Discuss the natural stages of HIV infection.
  6. List and discuss the diseases and infections associated with HIV infection.
  7. Describe the current treatment for HIV infection.
  8. Recognize the psychosocial issues associated with HIV/AIDS.
  9. Identify legal and ethical concerns associated with AIDS.
  10. Review TB and the HIV/TB connection.
  11. List and discuss the different types of Hepatitis.
