BARB 111 - Principles and Procedures of Barbering I


Credits: 1-10
Introduction and overview of all aspects of barbering. Topics include bacteriology, sanitation, sterilization, draping, shampooing, scissor cuts, razor cuts, clipper cuts, facial shaving, beard and mustache design, hair styling, hair structure, and safety.
Course Outcomes:
  1. Recognize safety and sanitation measures for protection of the client and barber for each service rendered.
  2. Identify implements used’for all services involved in basic Barbering.
  3. Classify types of haircuts/hairstyles.
  4. Determine solutions for selected type client service scenarios.
  5. Identify the interpersonal and communication skills with Barbering customers and Peers.
  6. Identify different services provided in a salon.
  7. Identify Washington State Barbering regulations and laws.

  3. Anatomy
  4. Chemistry
  5. Hair and scalp analysis
  6. Shaving procedures and facial hair design
  7. Client consultation
