BUS 493 - Business Management Capstone Project: Part I


Credits: 2
The series of Capstone Courses are designed to integrate all other knowledge learned in the BAS Business Management programs. The courses provide the student the opportunity to utilize the knowledge gained through their degree coursework in the form of a final project. Students will propose and plan a workplace or research project, or a business plan for an entrepreneurial venture. Students’ chosen project will be organized and tailored around the interests and needs of the individual student. Structured to provide an atmosphere of individualized research and study paralleled by professional expertise and guidance.

In this course, students will explore all aspects of their proposed business project or plan to increase their knowledge and abilities in their chosen field and reduce uncertainty in their chosen project. At the end of the quarter, students will have researched and extensively analyzed all aspects of the industry, reporting on current status and projected growth, key strengths, KPIs, opportunities and challenges within the industry to determine viability of proposed project. 
Course Outcomes:
 

  1. Describe the importance of an industry analysis in business research and planning.
  2. Evaluate an industry, including historic, current, and projected status.
  3. Analyze key success factors in the industry
  4. Determine environmental factors of an industry
  5. Research current and anticipated legal requirements for the industry
  6. Factor in current and anticipated trends on industry progression
  7. Analyze key competitors and customer characteristics
  8. Determine value creation of product or service
  9. Investigate supply chain viability and strategize, resources and partners.
  10. Determine long term viability of industry and business within the industry
  11. Formulate alternative strategies for anticipated industry changes.

  4. Legal requirements, current and anticipated, general and unique to business type
  5. Technological trends, current and anticipated
  6. Competitive Analysis, including competitor analysis, competitive advantage, customer/target market/s characteristics and major customer groups
  7. Business trends and opportunities
  8. Business viability
  9. Determine value creation of product or service within the industry
  10. Supply chain analysis and strategy, including resources and partners
  11. Alternative strategies
