PSYC 165 - The Psychology of Happiness Credits: 3 LEC hours per week: 3 Happiness. We all have an interest in being happy. But what does that really mean, and how does one achieve and sustain happiness? This course will journey through the history of happiness, explore biological and neurological processes that impact happiness, and compare various approaches to happiness in the world of psychology. There will be an emphasis on personal growth and self-reflection. Course Outcomes:
- Demonstrate familiarity with the major concepts, theoretical perspectives and misconceptions of happiness.
- Practice skills of reflection through the use of journal writing, mindfulness exercises and gratitude interventions.
- Strengthen critical thinking skills by comparing and evaluating various theories and approaches to improving happiness.
- Identify and evaluate personal core values and beliefs that contribute to happiness.
- Demonstrate an understanding of how happiness is researched and conduct basic psychological research.
