ESTE 275 - Instrumentation and SCADA Credits: 3 LEC hours per week: 2 LAB hours per week: 2 Advanced control principles are covered in this course with a strong emphasis on instrumentation input/output calibration, wiring, and PID loop control. Students will setup network connections to remotely control level and flow in a process by using instruments (i.e. sensors) - used in the processing and manufacturing industries - to obtain process information for adjusting a process controller’s settings. This course will apply the skills learned in ESTE 270 , ESTE 250 and ESTE 255 to demonstrate PLC and DDC control of the Process Level and Flow training equipment. Formerly: EST 285. Prerequisite(s): Grade of C or higher in ESTE 270 , ESTE 250 and ESTE 255 or instructor permission Course Outcomes:
- Identify and define instrumentation terms.
- Assemble and troubleshoot complex control scenarios.
- Set up and troubleshoot instrumentation, and manage process control loops, through a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) control center.
- Design and address an ethernet network for process control via SCADA.
- Assemble and deploy a local area network for process control devices and SCADA.
- Discuss “Network Security” as related to process control scenarios.
- Setup a Virtual Private Network (VPN) tunnel for secure data transfer.
- Control a process from a remote location.
Course Topics:
- Sensors, Inputs and Outputs
