AUDIO 112 - Audio Recording II

Credits: 4
LEC hours per week: 2
LAB hours per week: 4
This course advances students’ understanding and practical knowledge for routing and processing audio. Students learn how to route signal to internal and external hardware and practice setting up microphones and recording audio. It covers the dynamic section on the console and affords opportunity for practice to understand how the order affects the output of the sound and use dynamics on the incoming signal. Students continue adding to their microphone books.
Course Outcomes:
  • Demonstrate routing audio signal to various software and hardware.
  • Use proper microphone techniques for recording different audio sources.
  • Apply audio FX to audio source with pre- and post-fader routing.
  • Determine audio signal flow EQ, compression, and audio FX order to achieve audio sound outcome.
  • Use auxiliary channels for audio FX processing.
  • Demonstrate static EQ and dynamic EQ and explain their uses.
Course Topics:
  1. Microphone polar patterns and sound pressure levels (SPL)
  2. Audio signal flow
  3. Direct input box thru input
  4. Mixing console auxiliary channel
  5. Audio FX
  6. Static and dynamic EQ
