AUDIO 132 - Live Sound II

This course focuses on the next level of knowledge and skills necessary for successful stage sound. Students learn and practice how to route and use FX on the console for live performance venues, how to send audio signal to venue public address (PA) and recording software. They also set up wireless microphones and receivers, using proper wireless microphone levels based on thorough analysis of the acoustics of the venue space, and apply proper microphone technique. Additional topics include assigning independent channels to groups and using voltage-controlled amplifier (VCA) channels on the console.
Course Outcomes:
  • Send audio signal to stage monitors, venue PA system, and recording software.
  • Adjust squelch on wireless microphone, lapel, and receiver for optimum audio level.
  • Create a group channel for independent channels.
  • Assign channels to VCA channels.
  • Send channels to audio FX channels.
  • Demonstrate microphone techniques for stage.
