ESTE 204 - Introduction to Basic Electronics

Introduction to solid-state theory and basic electronic components. Students will study solid-state theory, operation, and testing of solid-state components and devices to include diodes, thermistors, transducers, photocells, transistor, SCR, Diac, Triac, SS relays, photoelectric and proximity controls. Formerly: EST 240.
Prerequisite(s): Grade of C or higher in ESTE 104  or instructor permission.

  • Identify electronic components visually and as symbols
  • Test solid state devices
  • Operate a programmable thermostat
  • Operate a programmable controller
  • Assemble and calibrate a digital Multimeter

  1. Oscilloscope operation and voltage/current operated devices
  2. PN junction operation and Diodes
  3. Voltage regulation and voltage/current filtering
  4. Solid state relay operation and transistors NPN, PNP
  5. MOSFET and IGBT operation
  6. Digital and Analog sensors
  7. The 741 Operational Amplifier and Comparators
  8. The 555 Timer and digital logic
  9. Current generators
