ESTE 204 - Introduction to Basic Electronics Credits: 5 LEC hours per week: 4 LAB hours per week: 2 Introduction to solid-state theory and basic electronic components. Students will study solid-state theory, operation, and testing of solid-state components and devices to include diodes, thermistors, transducers, photocells, transistor, SCR, Diac, Triac, SS relays, photoelectric and proximity controls. Formerly: EST 240. Prerequisite(s): Grade of C or higher in ESTE 104 or instructor permission. Course Outcomes:
- Explain Solid State Theory
- Identify electronic components visually and as symbols
- Test solid state devices
- Operate a programmable thermostat
- Operate a programmable controller
- Assemble and calibrate a digital Multimeter

- Oscilloscope operation and voltage/current operated devices
- PN junction operation and Diodes
- Voltage regulation and voltage/current filtering
- Solid state relay operation and transistors NPN, PNP
- MOSFET and IGBT operation
- Digital and Analog sensors
- The 741 Operational Amplifier and Comparators
- The 555 Timer and digital logic
- Current generators
