ESTE 202 - Introduction to Solar PV and Applications

Credits: 3
LEC hours per week: 2
LAB hours per week: 2
The fundamental concepts required for safe, code-compliant design and installation of photovoltaic (PV) systems will be covered with a focus on grid-direct solar electric systems. The core concepts necessary to work with all PV systems, including system components, site analysis, PV module criteria, mounting solutions, safety, and commissioning will be taught.  Formerly: EST 235.
Prerequisite(s): Grade of C or higher in EST 132  or ESTE 104  or instructor permission.
Course Outcomes:
  • Analyze customer needs
  • Describe differences in PV systems
  • Describe differences in inverters
  • Install a racking system, PV array, and electrical collection system
  • Test batteries and charging stations
Course Topics:
