ESTE 150 - Introduction To Controls Credits: 5 LEC hours per week: 3 LAB hours per week: 4 Students will practice electrical safety while being introduced to control principles, operation, symbols & electrical diagrams, wiring, adjustment, and testing procedures for pressure, temperature, level and flow controls used in application of operational and safety controls of all industries. Manual, electric-mechanical, mechanical-electric and electronic controls will be covered. Formerly: EST 133. Prerequisite(s): Grade of C or higher in ESTE 103 or ESTE 104 or instructor permission. Course Outcomes:
- Apply electrical safety procedures (LOTO).
- Read and analyze line, schematic and pictorial drawings.
- Summarize control component definitions and uses.
- Connect and operate basic control circuits.
- Troubleshoot control circuits.
- Connect, program and operate variable frequency drives (VFDs).
- Design and draw a ladder diagram from a schematic or pictorial wiring diagram and including rung numbers and labels on corresponding components.
