GEOG 105 - Physical Geography Credits: 5 LEC hours per week: 4 LAB hours per week: 2 The earth is a dynamic system that provides the exact combination of interrelated components to support life as we know it as this time. Introduces all aspects of earth systems, identifying physical phenomena and stressing their distribution and relationships. It will place a special emphasis on human-environmental relationships. Lab work required. Prerequisite(s): Appropriate placement score or grade of C or higher in ENGL 097 ; or permission of the Division Chair or designee. Recommended: READ 088 . Course Outcomes:
- Explain how scientific models and made and modified
- Demonstrate proficiency in the use of maps and the geographical coordinate system
- Predict how special relationships affect processes
- Identify causes of seasons including the geometry of solstices, equinoxes, and perihelion
- Describe the composition and processes of the atmosphere including the role of the various atmospheric gases and the movement of energy
- Analyze lithospheric processes such as the rock cycle and plate tectonics
- Recognize fluvial landforms and the role of the hydrosphere on other geographic systems
